 DAWN at IAFFE 2024

Every year, the International Association for Feminist Economics (IAFFE) hosts a dynamic conference, providing an inclusive platform for the exchange of innovative ideas and research on feminist economics. On the forefront of the feminist economic debate, DAWN once again attended the conference.

This year’s conference, took place from July 3-5 2024 in Rome, Italy, and aimed to provoke critical reflections on two defining features of our current landscape:

1️⃣ Technological breakthroughs in the digital economy
2️⃣ A crisis of democracy, political polarisation, and backlash

Our executive committee members Cai Yiping, Corina Rodríguez Enríquez, Flora Partenio, and Kumudini Samuel joined several discussions during the conference, debating themes from the digital economy and its impact on women from the global South to the gender inequalities reinforced by the fiscal policy agenda.

We also had the privilege of hosting a featured panel that discussed the feminist political economy and development challenges from a global South perspective.

🔎 Feminist Political Economy and Development Challenges: A Global South Perspective 🌏 Promoted and presented by DAWN’s executive committee members: Corina Rodriguez Enriquez, Kumudini Samuel, Florencia Partenio, with political economist Vagisha Gunasekara as a special guest.

Feminist economist Corina Rodriguez also participated in a panel on the Feminist Fiscal Agenda in the Global South, researcher and activist Florencia Partenio presented a panel on the digital economy, alongside IT for Change, Equidad and Ocaru Ecuador. Researcher Cai Yiping featured at a panel on the gig economy promoted by Action Aid UK.

The week of discussions was truly inspiring and filled with profound knowledge exchanges, igniting our collective imagination and fortifying our resolve to tackle current challenges and shape a visionary feminist future.

We thank everyone who joined us in person in Rome or online.

See you next year!
