Bodies, sexuality and rights: advances and resistance

June 18, 2019. DAWN, in collaboration with FEMNET (African Women’s Development and Communication Network) and RESURJ (Realizing Sexual and Reproductive Justice), delivered a webinar on SRHR advocacy, debates and emerging challenges. Drawing from DAWN’s paper Body, sexuality and reproduction in a changing context, the webinar addressed how the divergence and fragmentation of the SRHR paradigm, the rising of right-wing and conservative forces, the influence of corporate power, and other related challenges manifest in our regional contexts in global South.

Feminist activists and researchers Sachini Perera (Sri Lanka), Françoise Kpeglo Moudouthe (Cameroon), Dandan Zhang (Taiwan), Yiping Cai (China), Florencia Partenio (Argentina), and María Graciela Cuervo (Dominican Republic) as the moderator, provided insights and examples from their respective countries and regions of how these challenges unfold, but also of how they are being faced by the feminist movement and by women’s rights organizations. The webinar included diverse participation from Argentina, Egypt, Fiji, Iraq, India, Italy, Kenya, Mali, Mexico, Nigeria, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Uruguay and Zimbabwe.
