The Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) is a functional commission of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. It is the principal global policy-making body. Every year, representatives of Member States gather at United Nations Headquarters in New York to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and advancement of women worldwide. DAWN’s PARTICIPATION AT CSW
DAWN is an ECOSOC accredited women’s organization. It sends representatives each year to the Annual Meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women. Five DAWN Executive Committee members are usually designated as its key representatives and given annual passes to all UN events. Other DAWN members, affiliates and DAWN DTI alumnae are given temporary passes by registering for every UN event that they attend. NGO parallel events held outside of the UN building are accessible and do not require UN passes.
