It is with immense sadness that we in DAWN mark the passing of our beloved Gigi Francisco – activist, scholar, teacher and friend to so many of us over many, many years. Gigi was with DAWN in many capacities almost from the very beginning. She worked especially hard to consolidate and advance DAWN’s analysis and advocacy during the period when she was General Coordinator, from 2008 until October 2014. Although Gigi had been ill for the last couple of years, she had remained active for as long as she possibly could, including being on the official Philippines delegation to the CPD last year, and joining the DAWN Board and Executive Committee in a celebration of her 60th birthday in Antipolo, Manila. And so while we are deeply sorrowful, we celebrate her wonderful, rich life – filled with a burning passion for justice – her unflinching feminist courage, her abiding love for her wonderful family, her fierce loyalty to her friends …. And we remember with fondness her savvy political analysis and encyclopedic knowledge of social movements, her laughter, her quirky and often raunchy sense of humour, her generosity, her warmth ….. We will miss you dearly, Gigi… Go in peace and with all our love, dear friend, beloved companera…

Adiós querida Gigi
Es con inmensa tristeza que en DAWN informamos sobre el fallecimiento de nuestra querida Gigi Francisco – activista, académica, profesora y amiga de muchas de nosotras durante muchos, muchos años. Gigi participaba en DAWN casi desde el principio y de diversas formas. Trabajó especialmente duro para consolidar y avanzar el análisis y la incidencia de DAWN durante el período en que fue Coordinadora General, desde 2008 hasta octubre de 2014. Aunque Gigi había estado enferma durante el último par de años, se había mantenido activa durante tanto tiempo como le fuera posible, además de ser parte de la delegación oficial de Filipinas a la CPD año pasado, y celebrar junto al Comité Ejecutivo y Directorio de DAWN su cumpleaños número 60 en Antipolo, Manila. Mientras que estamos profundamente entristecidas, celebramos su maravillosa y enriquecedora la vida, – llena de pasión por la justicia – su coraje feminista inquebrantable, su amor perdurable por su maravillosa familia, su feroz lealtad a sus amigos-as…. Y recordamos con cariño su análisis politico, su experiencia y el conocimiento enciclopédico de los movimientos sociales, su risa, su peculiar sentido del humor, su generosidad, su calor… .. Te vamos a extrañar mucho, Gigi … Ve en paz y con toda nuestro amor, querida amiga, querida compañera…
