The United Nations periodically holds thematic conferences that tackle subjects as varied as the environment and sustainable development, housing, the status of women and gender equality, ageing, HIV/AIDS, drug control, the state of the world’s children, and more. UN conferences are often followed up and reviewed by the General Assembly in the form of special sessions, high-level meetings, summits and other events.
DAWN has consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), one of the six principal organs of the UN, responsible for coordinating the organisation’s economic and social fields. We have been playing an active role in UN conferences through the years, since our debut at The World Conference on Women, in 1985 in Nairobi.
