On Monday, November 24, 2025, DAWN along with the Secretariat for Women of Mexico City, and Equidad de Género, Ciudadanía, Trabajo y Familia co-organized a public dialogue at Casa Refugio Citlaltépetl in Mexico City to reflect on how macroeconomic structures are expressed in everyday life and local policies, and how transformations that challenge systemic dynamics can be driven from the territories of the Global South.
Macroeconomic policies — fiscal, monetary, financial, or debt-related — are not neutral: they shape the material conditions and room for action of individuals, households, and local governments. At the same time, the responses emerging from the territories — through public policies, community networks, and feminist movements — can become spaces of resistance, innovation, and structural change toward more just, caring, and sustainable economies.
The event Feminist Economics from the Global South: Dialogues between the Macro and the Local opened a conversation among feminists from different regions of the South and local actors on the intersections between economy, territory, and the sustainability of life. From the territories of the South, where global macroeconomic decisions are felt most sharply and take on specific forms due to the historical subordination of our regions, this spaced served to collectively build bridges between international debates and local experiences that sustain life and propose new ways of organizing the economy.
