Dear feminist supporters of the ICPD Programme of Action,
Several of us will be at the Nairobi Summit in mid-November, and some of us have participated actively in trying to shape the agenda and the commitments for Nairobi. At this stage, as we head to Nairobi, we are deeply concerned that the Nairobi Statement on Accelerating the Promise is not bold enough or urgent enough. We also feel strongly that global feminist movements – the movements that changed the paradigm in Cairo – should receive clearer and stronger recognition.
We, the undersigned organizations, have therefore collectively prepared a Call to Action, entitled the Time is NOW, to ensure that we come to Nairobi with a forward-looking and comprehensive platform for a just and sustainable world, steeped in the human rights of all. We will present the Call to Action to the conference participants in Nairobi.
