Published as a synthesis of the December 2001 SID-DAWN Africa-UNFPA Africa Regional Dialogue, this 12-page leaflet examines the strategic frameworks required to build collaborative networks among African women’s organisations. The text analyses how neoliberal macroeconomic policies, international debt, and structural adjustment programs limit the capacity of governments to meet commitments from the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), impacting women’s sexual and reproductive health. Linking global economic pressures with local cultural and religious barriers, the publication documents alliance-building strategies across the continent. It highlights the use of information technologies by networks such as WOUGNET and ZaWoN, media coalitions like TAMWA, and local governance decentralisation to improve health equity and demand state accountability.
