The Highway of the Future

In this animated short, Mariama, a Senegalese woman, recounts how the building of the Highway of the Future in Dakar profoundly impacted her life and the lives of people who were meant to benefit from this initiative. The Highway of the Future is part of a series of animated and live-action films produced under the project “Old Dog, New Tricks: Neocolonialism & Public-Private Partnerships in the Global South”, highlighting the effects of PPPs on women’s lives. The project also focuses on the deterioration of working conditions by promoting casual contracts and different degrees of informal work in what’s quickly becoming another problematic trend of late-stage capitalism.
