Changing paradigms in favor of sexual and reproductive health and rights

In partnership with feminist, women’s and other organizations, supportive governments and UN agencies, DAWN was a key player advocating in 1994 for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), which changed the population paradigm in favor of sexual and reproductive health and rights, and gender equality. The MacArthur Foundation was an important supporter of this effort at creating a unified framework for policy change, research and activism.
To mark 40 years of grant-making, the Foundation published 40 stories from different fields. Gita Sen, DAWN’s General Co-coordinator, and Samantha Peña Hernández, Chiapas State Leader of the Catholic Youth Network for the Right to Decide, talk about the importance of ICPD in an interview published by the Foundation
